Student leaders are proactive

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” – Anne Frank

Leaders are proactive. They do not sit by and wait for things to fall into their lap. They actively seek and create opportunities to fulfil their goals.

Student leaders do not allow a lack of resources, connections or motivation to impede their progress. They are committed to their cause despite the challenges that arise. In fact, they anticipate and expect challenges to be present and back themselves to come up with solutions to the problems they face.

Proactive leaders are future-focused. They prepare in advance and go above and beyond what is required. The opposite is to be a reactive person — these are people who respond after the events have unfolded. Instead of leading their life, they are reacting to it. As a result, progress is difficult.

Proactive leaders show up early and ask for help and feedback. They exercise to stay fit and healthy. They set goals, manage their time and they create to-do lists. In essence, they think beyond the short term.
