Character is a Student Leader’s compass

“Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.” – John Wooden

The most fundamental element of student leadership is good character.

Character is who you are on the inside. It is the hardwired code of who you are at your core. It is made of your values, your ability to be trusted, your consistency to show up and the way you treat others.

Trust is the most important element in a relationship and if you want to make an impact and influence people you must be able to be trusted.

To build trust:

Aim to live your values every day
Don’t make commitments unless you are willing to keep them
Carry yourself with integrity and with an approach that displays genuine personal regard for everyone in your school community

Believe in people and show love and concern for all. These ideals will elevate your influence to unfathomable heights.
