“Thank you for taking your time to talk to our school today. Your speech is incredibly moving because personally, it free me from my BS belief system. I used to have engineering as a plan B for my future because I truly believed I could not get into medicine. I had to ask myself a hard question today; ‘why not you?’ I kept coming up with excuses by looking at my past results/grades and my achievements thus far, but this time it didn’t put me down as it usually does. Something just clicked in your speech for me, it was a particular moment when you explained the contrast of childhood dreams, and current dreams. I knew I didn’t want to disappoint my younger self and knew she wouldn’t be particularly happy seeing me at this moment. I want and will prove her than I can. The stakes are high, and it feels like I have to move mountains to get into medicine. But I want to have absurd dreams and see people recover, or go overseas as a doctor helping the less fortunate. I want to commit to myself. And I can. From you I have also realised the importance of a series of wins, and improving habits once they are created and today, I had two wins. Thank you for all you do!”
